SUGAR COOKIES

Friend Judy uses a recipe she got from a high school friend named Carol when she makes sugar cookies. She surprised each one of us with several frosted heart-shaped cookies as we were leaving her house after enjoying a delicious dinner. Since it was the night for the monthly gathering of the Tasty Bunch and it was also Valentine's Day, Judy decided she would serve us dinner instead of going out to a restaurant as we usually do.

In addition to being a nice surprise, the cookie was also really good. I will have to start using her recipe when I make cut-out sugar cookies.

SUGAR COOKIES

3/4       cup butter and shortening (Judy used 1/4 cup butter & 1/2 cup shortening.)
1           cup sugar
2          eggs
1/2       teaspoon vanilla
2-1/2   cups flour
1           teaspoon baking powder
1           teaspoon salt

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

Cream thoroughly the butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla.

Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

Stir dry ingredients in the creamed mixture.

Roll out 1/8 inch thick on a lightly floured surface.

Cut into desired shapes.

Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Sprinkle with sugar.

Bake for 8 minutes.

Makes about 4 dozen 3 inch cookies.
