Today I am sharing another one of the appetizers that everyone enjoyed when half of the Tasty Bunch gathered at Judy and Paul's house for Valentine's Day. I have already shared the Spinach Dip Bites Judy served. This version of Rouladen, Judy serves as an appetizer and was just as tasty.
Since I don't have pictures of Judy putting these together, I will share several of the pictures I took of them finished (before they were devoured).
ROULADEN
round steak cut 1/4 inch thick
carrot sticks
dill pickle slices
onion slices (strips)
Judy said she has the butcher cut round steak 1/4 inch thick. Even with this, Judy still pounds the round steak a little bit to help keep it from being tough. She says the dill pickle helps keep the meat tender and gives it a neat flavor.
She cuts pieces of the steak about 2 or 3 inches wide and then long enough to wrap around one carrot stick, one dill pickle slice, and one onion strip.
Then wrap a piece of bacon around the roll and secure with a toothpick.
Brown two sides in a frying pan and then add about 1/2 inch of water.
Cover the pan and simmer for 30 minutes. She warns to watch the water level because you may have to add more.
